This 7-week course, held every Sunday at 1:00 PM, is your gateway to the enthralling world of chess, designed specifically for beginners and enthusiasts eager to delve into the game's fundamentals. Each week, we'll unravel the mysteries of chess in sessions that blend instruction with hands-on practice. You’ll learn the basics – from understanding the chessboard layout to the unique movements of each piece. Gradually, we'll introduce key strategies and tactics, offering insights into opening principles, middle-game tactics, and endgame techniques. Our approach is unique at Foundation Chess. We believe in learning through playing. Thus, each class combines theory with practical games. You'll have the opportunity to play against fellow classmates, providing a real-time platform to apply your newly acquired skills and strategies. As part of Session One, you'll not only learn how to move the pieces but also start thinking like a chess player. Our curriculum covers: Opening Principles: Understand the goals of a good opening and learn some common opening moves. Tactical Motifs: Discover basic tactics like forks, pins, and skewers. Checkmate Patterns: Learn how to finish a game with common checkmating techniques. Basic Strategy: Develop early strategic thinking, focusing on piece development and control of the center. We foster an environment that's supportive and interactive. Classes are structured to encourage questions, discussions, and collaborative learning. Our experienced instructors are passionate about chess and equally passionate about teaching, ready to guide you every step of the way. This course is perfect for those who have always wanted to learn chess but didn't know where to start, as well as those who know the basics but want to establish a stronger foundation.
